Cheap Travel

Travel Cheap

I’m a 100% self-sufficient woman. Single, one income, no one to fall back on. Writing and self-publishing books was my wildest dream, but I didn’t want to give up my other wild dreams, most of all my love of traveling. So I had to adjust a little to be able to afford everything.

I’m a teacher. That means several vacations a year, and I’m never, ever home for them. In 2017 I managed to eke out seven trips! Probably won’t get that many this year, but regardless of the numbers I’ll share this: I’ve become really good at stretching those dollars to take great trips. Here are a few websites that I use.

Everyone knows about Expedia and Travelocity. How about Tripmasters, Gate 1, and Cathay Pacific? Allows you to search for trips to your specifications. Going to multi cities? No problem. Depending on the location, they also offer transfers and day trips. One trip that I booked here included transfers. Best deal I’ve found: Five of my friends and I went to Chile and Easter Island for less than $2,000 per person. Recently I booked a trip to Romania for $1,200. One of my favorites. This isn’t the first time I’ve shared this one. Gate 1 has guided tours, but I’ve become increasingly fond of the independent packages they offer. Not so different than Tripmasters in that aspect, because they also have transfers and day trips available. Best deal I’ve found: I went to Italy for $1,100. And that was with single supplement, and three day trips included.  I especially like this airline. It may be my favorite in the world, in fact. Cathay Pacific has some pretty far-out destinations, like Sri Lanka and the Maldives (have not been to either. YET!) And package deals are available at very reasonable prices. Best deal I’ve found: Hong Kong for $1,400 from Boston, nonstop flight, hotel, and transfers included.

I’m always on the lookout for more options. Stay tuned!
